“Honestly, I was sceptical about doing an online course — but this one felt different. It was clear, practical, and actually useful. I ended up applying what I learned the same week at work.””

Sam, Support Worker

“As an HR professional, I’m often the first point of contact when staff are going through something difficult. This course gave me a structured, practical approach I can use straight away. The CARe framework was particularly helpful — especially the reminder to pause, listen fully, and not jump into problem-solving. I’ve already used the ‘reassure and inform’ step during a team debrief, and it helped calm the room. It’s a resource I’ve now recommended to several managers across our organisation.””

Elena, HR Manager

““English is not my first language, and I usually struggle with online courses. But this was different. I could follow each step, take my time, and really understand how to support someone. Now I feel more confident to help when someone is feeling overwhelmed.””

Ahmed, Disability Support Worker

““Most PD I’ve done just ticks a box. This actually felt practical — the examples were real, the language made sense, and because it was self-paced, I could get it done around my shifts.””

Jess, Mental Health Support Worker

““I thought maybe this course would be same like other online training — easy to forget. But it’s different. I still remember the listening part, and I use it when I talk with people who feel upset. It help me feel more calm and know what to say.””

Thanh, Community Volunteer

““I almost didn’t enrol because of the price — I assumed it wouldn’t be as useful as a face-to-face workshop. But I was wrong. This is probably the best value training I’ve done. Everything was clear, practical, and easy to apply. I’ve already used the support framework twice at work, and it made a big difference in how I responded. I wish I’d done this earlier.””

Sione, Case Manager

““I’ve done plenty of professional development, but most of it is theory-heavy and hard to apply. This course was different — everything felt grounded in real situations. The examples were practical, and the support steps were easy to remember. I’ve already used them in conversations with students and staff. I even shared parts of the course with my team, and they found it just as helpful. It’s one of the few courses I’d actually recommend to others.””

Kieran Thorpe | Director

BHealthSc, GCertEd, GDipPsych, MSc (Psych), MAPS

Hi, I’m Kieran — a psychology lecturer and mental health educator with over 20 years of experience supporting people through challenging moments. I’ve worked across education, community services and mental health, helping individuals, teams and organisations build the skills to respond calmly, confidently and compassionately when someone is struggling. This course was designed to give you practical tools — not just theory — so you can feel ready to help when it matters most. My goal is to make sure you leave with simple, real-world strategies that you can use straight away, no matter your role or background. You don’t need to be a psychologist to support someone — you just need the right approach. That’s what this course is all about.

Dr Ashley Humphrey | Co-Founder

BA (Psych) (Hons), PhD

Hi, I’m Ashley — a psychology educator and researcher with a focus on how people think, connect, and find meaning in tough times. My work explores the values, beliefs, and social dynamics that shape wellbeing — especially for young people and those navigating uncertainty. Over the past decade, I’ve published research on identity, mental health, and social connection, and taught psychology at the university level. But I’ve always believed that psychology should be useful — not just academic. At The Wellbeing Project, I help turn big ideas into practical tools. My aim is to make sure the learning feels relevant, clear, and immediately useful — so that what you take from our courses sticks with you long after the page is closed.

In 2018, we were bored, tired, and frustrated with sitting through professional development that didn’t work. It was the 21st century — why were we still getting death by PowerPoint? With support from Spark Deakin and backing from Deakin University, The Wellbeing Project was born. Not just a course, but a rethink of what learning could be.
